Winter

When the water temperature around the northern Gulf Coast gets below 62 degrees
The Speckled Trout head for brackish waters up the tidal rivers. Time to head for the
Mobile Delta by the Battleship or around the mouth of the rivers. (Book a Trip now)
typically this period is from early December through mid-March. The most effective
techniques are to drift the river channels while casting lead headed soft plastic baits until a school is located. Then position yourself to present the bait properly and you should catch plenty as the fish tend to school during the winter.

Redfish- When the water temperature hits 65 degrees in the Mobile Delta the Redfish
start to go nuts! You will find and fish for them about the same way you would Speckled Trout.
In late winter when the water has warmed up for a few days the Redfish will move up
to feed in the Delta. Try any creek mouth that drains the marsh-especially around the
oyster shells on the bottom.

Trolling- I know trolling has gone to the way of the past, pushed out for the Bass type
casting. But trolling is the fastest way to find and catch fish! Works in winter, spring,
summer and fall. All you have to do is to throw the bait back about 150' and run the
boat motor around 4mph, with plastic or live bait. The Causeway Rig
works well for trolling too. But I will put a swivel between the hook and the sinkers, so the live
bait doesn't just spin around and around. Or put on a 3 way swivel and it be comes  the Causeway Trolling Rig works great with plastic lures too. Hey lets keep it simple! Hook, line, sinker and swivel.
